and maybe not then
I’ll be playing two characters. False Faye and Eve! The music is gorgeous and we have a lot of terrific artists participating in this reading.
A reading of the music theater piece, "and maybe not then" by composer Dan Rubins and directed by Kate Moore Heaney.
From 1950 to 1951, Joe Levison sent his parents 25 letters while serving as a press relations officer in the Korean War. They saved all of them, plus dozens of official documents, newspaper clippings, condolence cards written after Joe’s death at the age of 22, and the leather-framed photograph of a woman Joe might or might not have been engaged to marry.
In 2019, composer Dan Rubins opened his family’s box of history. and maybe not then, his response to what he found, is a music theater piece animating not only the archival remains of his great-uncle’s short life but also the research process itself, which led him to Canada, California, and Korea in search of the stories of the strangers in the margins.
Starring Sarafina Belafonte, Rebecca Brudner, Sofía Campoamor, Will Conard, Christine Cornell, Ellis Gage, Masa Gibson, Jake Gluckman, Zina Ellis, Patty Irwin, Danyele Yvonne James, Christa Masson, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, Kyle Picha, Michael Protacio, Oliver Richman, and Harold Theurer
