Bard Music Festival — Program Six "I live with God ever before me": Mozart's Religion
Thursday, August 13, 2026 · 7:00 pm Church of the Messiah · 6436 Montgomery Street, Rhinebeck, NY Bard Festival Chorale · James Bagwell, conductor
I'm singing with the Bard Festival Chorale for this intimate evening of sacred music in one of the Hudson Valley's loveliest church settings. The program traces Mozart's lifelong relationship with the divine — from a motet he composed at just nine years old to the dramatic psalm settings of his Vesperae solennes de Confessore — and surrounds his music with works he knew and revered: Allegri's legendary Miserere (in the original version the young Mozart famously transcribed from memory after a single hearing), a Bach motet, and Handel, whom Mozart admired deeply. The church's beautifully renovated organ is featured throughout. Seating in Rhinebeck is limited, so early booking is recommended.
