Mozart's Too Beautiful

Bard Music Festival — Program Eleven "Too beautiful": Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio

Sunday, August 16, 2026 · 3:00 pm (preconcert talk at 2:00 pm) Fisher Center at Bard, Sosnoff Theater · Annandale-on-Hudson, NY Bard Festival Chorale · American Symphony Orchestra · Leon Botstein, conductor · Directed by Marco Nisticò

The grand finale of the entire SummerScape season — and I get to be part of it! I'll be singing with the Bard Festival Chorale in this semi-staged performance of Mozart's exuberant Singspiel, the opera that supposedly prompted Emperor Joseph II's famous complaint about "too many notes." Written when Mozart was just 26, it brims with dazzling vocal writing, Turkish-inflected color, and one of opera's most surprising endings. Conducted by Leon Botstein with a wonderful cast of soloists, this performance also streams live on the Fisher Center's virtual stage, and round-trip coach transportation from New York City is available.
